University of Žilina (UNIZA) with 70 years of history belongs to one of the leading educational and scientific institutions in Slovakia.

With its rich tradition it occupies a significant place among Slovak universities. It has seven faculties (the Faculty of Operation and Economics of Transport and Communications, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Faculty of Management Science and Informatics, the Faculty of Security Engineering, the Faculty of Humanities). The university also has the following workplaces: the Institute of High Mountain Biology, the Institute of Physical Education, the Institute of Forensic Research and Education, the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, the Institute of Continuing education and the Institute of Competitiveness and Innovations and the Aviation Training and Education Centre.

Role in the project

UNIZA will ensure compliance that the proposed novel technologies will meet all legal and ethical requirements and guarantee EU civil liberties. This objective aims to provide recommendations regarding certification processes and regulatory frameworks to initiate harmonization at EU level and secure business models at a sufficient level of safety and security regarding the involvement of autonomous systems in civil protection operations. Legal interdependencies across UGV-UAV infrastructures and other social and economic systems will be investigated, encompassing cybersecurity, secure communications. Regarding data, ethical assessment will be performed, ensuring AI trustworthiness and compliance with EU guidelines and the current regulatory framework, that includes respect of privacy, personal data protection, fundamental rights.
